Shopping in Cuba is unlike shopping in any other country!

When you are travelling to cuba on your Esencia Experience organised holiday, we do everything we can to make the process as relaxed and simple as possible – if you desire it, you won’t have to lift a finger during your trip! We really can take care of every last detail on your behalf.

For that reason, there will probably not be any need for you to be hitting the shops during your time here, or doing any shopping in Cuba – especially when it comes to shopping for groceries or bathroom amenities, for example.

However, one of the thrills of being in a new country is exploring the shops and markets of the area, browsing the local produce or trinkets and selecting the perfect things to buy, either as memento of your trip or as a gift for a loved one.

Shopping in Cuba is a colourful experience

Depending on where you are in the country, shopping in Cuba can be a varying experience. On one hand, shopping in the markets of Cuba can be a very rewarding. If you are visiting a more rural area, a less crowded town or village such as Baracoa for example, it’s likely that you will find charming small markets that pop up on certain days. Here you will be able to browse like a local, tasting the delicious food and drink on display and selecting the perfect, authentic item of clothing or decorative ornament. This will probably be a very enjoyable way to spend a morning during your holiday, and will give you a real insight into everyday Cuban life in the countryside.

Shopping in Cuban cities can be very different!

In the busier towns and city centres themselves shopping can be an experience on the opposite end of the scale! If you’re looking for proper retail shops in Cuba, like you might find in your home country, you could be looking for a long time. That kind of environment just doesn’t exist here, and instead shops can be a bit of an obstacle for you to manoeuvre!

Firstly, they can become incredibly busy; it’s common to see people queuing to get into a popular shop. Then, it’s unlikely that you would be able to browse for what you’re looking for – you will have to ask the shop assistant what it is you need and they will find it and show it to you. It’s best to come to Cuba prepared with things you definitely need during your trip, as you may not want to risk having to shop for it!

Of course, on a holiday with us here at Esencia Experiences, we can take care of every last detail of your holiday for you – including shopping! Contact us if you would like any more information about life in Cuba, or to begin planning your bespoke luxury holiday…
